Flame-Broiled

Fri Dec 30, 2005, 12:33 AM
I'm a little ticked off right now, and I have no where to direct my anger. Let me elaborate. I live in a small town in the midwest United States that is in it's death throes. The big employers are all pulling out and moving their operations southward to Mexico. This has pretty much wiped out a third of the jobs that were previuosly available. Jobs where a person could actually make a living at without needing public assistance or a second or even a third job. To fill the vaccum the idiots that run the city government decide to add more retail and service oriented jobs. But how, I ask humbley, is this going to help the problem? Whithout the good jobs to provide the capitol to enable people to Buy goods or services, how can an economy expect to thrive on a retail and service oriented market? For example: Jim Bob used to work down at the refridgerator factory making $20.00 and hour, but since the refridgerator factory closed up and moved to Mexico, Jim Bob is working at Hardees making minimum wage during the day, and McDonalds at night, and at the local Sears on the weekends just to keep a roof over his head, clothes on his kid's back, and, with the skyrocketing price of power, he is still hard pressed to keep the thermostat at a clammy 65 degrees. How then is he expected to patronize the stores that the local government has managed to import into town to keep it from dying? Better yet, If Jim Bob can't buy a new refridgerator, Made in Mexico, from said store, how then is said store going to stay in business? Furthermore, if said store can't stay in business, what happens to the people who used to work in said store?

Well, I tell you what happens to them, they move! They move by the truckload, car load, bus load, train load until there is nobody left in what used to be a town. So what incentive is there for another major job provider to move back into town? NONE!!!!

But this isn't why I'm pissed, okay in a round about sort of way it is. The reason I'm pissed is because since the jobs moved away we have a total of 3 McDonalds, 3 Hardees, 47 bars, 15 hotels, a Wal-mart, and a Target store in a town of what used to be 33,000 people but I suspect is more like 25,000 now, and not one freakin Burgerking!!!!!!! NOT ONE! We used to have one, but because of the massive influx of McDonalds, and Hardees, they got starved out, and Goddamnit! I want a Whopper in a bad way right now, But I have to drive 50 miles to get one! I'm afraid I'm gonna have to too because as all the McDonalds, and Hardees and everything else in town slowly strangles to death there is little hope of another Burgerking moving back. And that, ladies and gentleman, is why I'm flame-broiled!
